About Me
My Life in IT
I have more than 10 years experience in IT in a large local government organization with more than 4000 workstations and 6000 users that provides a 24/7 service. I was the leading technician in the migration from Windows 3.11 to Windows NT then to Windows 2000 and finally to Windows XP Pro. My main responsibility being the design and delivery of the desktop and associated applications.
I am skilled in the use of Novell ZENWorks from version 1 to version 7.1 together with experience with Netware and OES servers.
I specialized in the management of users and desktop PCs using Novell ZENWorks and in workstation imaging using Novell ZENWorks imaging together with the ENGL Toolkit
I later took over management responsibility for the team of technicians who develop the desktop computer environment for the organization whilst I remained the senior practicing technician.
I am used to working in an environment where security is paramount.
Who was I before IT ?
I was a Police Officer for 30 years. I joined Kent Police in 1976 as a Police Cadet and joined the regular force at 18 in 1977. I worked as a patrol officer then as a village bobby for about 10 years before moving on to become a dog handler. After loosing a treasured dog through illness I left the dog section and went back to community policing. I served the last 8 years of my service in the IT department. On my retirement as a Police Officer I rejoined the force as a civilian IT manager/practitioner.I still retain my love of dogs and I still miss working with them. I am lucky enough to count Kevin Sanderson from the Dog Section as a friend. Kevin is now one of the counties most experienced dog trainers. Visit Kevin at his web site www.ksdogtraining.co.uk.
All of my clients are important to me but I doubt I'll ever have another
like Bert from Wingham.

Bert is a great bloke full of life and very independent. During the summer he's too busy to use his PC very much because he's out in his award winning garden. I was truly amazed when he told me he was born in 1910 making him 98 !! He has led an interesting life which includes serving in the Auxiliary Fire Service in Canterbury during the war. He was on duty the night that Canterbury was devastated in the Baedeker Raid in 1942. For more information on this raid follow this link to BBC Peoples War . Bert's computer had a few problems that I managed to quickly clear up for him.
Bert was kind enough to allow me to publish his photo here.
